Soviet Pop Groups Aim For U.S. Tours
G. Schirmer Music and its affiliated company, Macmillan Performing Arts, are holding talks with the Soviet copyright agency, VAAP, for concert tours of Russian pop groups in the U.S.
Discussions are a result of the appearance of Soviet combos at the recent Midem showcases in Cannes. Among the Soviet talent
that appeared at Cannes were the Pesniary Group, an 11-member combo of White Russians, the Romen Trio, composer-singer Yan Frankel and Alla Pougatcheva, a top femme performer in the Soviet.
Schirmer Music has an exclusive deal with VAAP to publish Russian music in the U.S. Internationale Musikveralge has a similar arrangement for West Germany, Le Chant du Monde has the rights for j France and G. Ricordi represents i VAAP in Italy.
