The law on state monopoly for foreign trade was among the first legislative acts of the Soviet state. On the basis of this law, V/O "Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga" was founded in April 1923. At present this organization carries on operations pertaining to the export of Soviet books, other nonperiodical publications, newspapers, magazines, gramophone records, compact cassettes, contemporary fine art works, film stripes and slides, as well as philatelic items and accessories. V/O "Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga" imports books, periodicals, gramophone records and postage stamps for collection.
Our trade mark depicting the globe cleft by the pages of an open book with the letters "MK", is symbolic of the position V/O "Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga" holds on the world market.
We maintain relations of business partnership with more than a thousand firms in 140 countries. We could well supplement our trade mark with the motto, "Trust. Mutual Understanding. Progress" It was indeed with these worthy aimsin view that our organization was founded. By exporting books, newspapers, magazines and other items from the USSR, V/O "Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga" acquaints the whole world with the Soviet Union's historical experience, its achievements in science, technology and culture. By importing similar goods, it places cultural treasures of other countries and peoples within the reach of millions of Soviet citizens.
Our export range is expanding. We now export an increasing number of original works by Soviet artists and are in a position to offer foreign firms videorecordings and holograms.
Today, as sixty years ago, we are ready to negotiate and establish mutually advantageous business relations with any firm on commercial terms accepted in international practice.
